Jacob Raphael

Dr. Jacob Raphael, a native of Israel, is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and co-director of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia at the University of Virginia Health System, Charlottesville, VA USA.
Dr. Raphael’s clinical practice is focused on adult and pediatric cardio-thoracic anesthesia. In addition he has active research both in basic science and clinical research. His basic science research is focused on prevention of ischemia reperfusion injury and on anesthetic-induced myocardial protection and he has published extensively in this field. His clinical research focuses on outcomes after cardiac surgery with special emphasis on post cardiac surgery AKI as well as patient blood management and utilization of POC hemostasis testing to decrease cardiac surgery-related bleeding and transfusion. Dr. Raphael has been very active with the American Society of Anesthesiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists and has been a frequent speaker for both societies on topics related to cardiac anesthesia and his research.
